Production electric motorcycles. A category that didn't exist in 1996, barely existed in 2006, and is still finding its feet now.
Electric motorcycles are a real category now, finally. Zero, LiveWire, Energica, Verge, and the new Ryvid Anthem all build production machines. Range is the everyday limit (most production EVs do 100-150 miles real-world), and price remains higher than equivalent ICE bikes, but the bikes themselves are genuinely good.
The case for: instant torque from zero, no clutch or gears, near-silent running, very low maintenance, and a riding feel unlike any combustion bike. The case against: charging infrastructure is patchy outside major metros, range anxiety is real on longer rides, and resale values are still uncertain because battery longevity is unproven over 10+ years.
Best buys for 2026: Zero SR/F as the all-rounder, LiveWire S2 Del Mar / Mulholland for character at a (sort of) reasonable price, Ryvid Anthem ($5,995) as the cheapest serious electric on the market. Verge TS Pro is the wildcard — promising tech, real-world ownership stories still emerging.
