Honda's mid-scrambler entry
Late but capable
Honda was late to the mid-scrambler segment — Triumph Scrambler 800 launched 2006, Ducati Scrambler 800 launched 2014. Honda's CL500 finally arrived in 2024 with the proven CB500F engine and platform. Same 471cc parallel-twin as Rebel 500, CB500X, CBR500R, NX500.
vs Triumph Scrambler 400 X
Different bikes
Triumph Scrambler 400 X (398cc single, 40bhp, 179kg wet, £4,995): lighter, single-cylinder character, more off-road capable. Honda CL500 (471cc parallel-twin, 47bhp, 192kg wet, £6,499): smoother, more touring-capable, more comfortable. Different riders. CL500 is the more 'on-road' interpretation of mid-scrambler.
vs Royal Enfield Scram 411
Different price points
Royal Enfield Scram 411 (411cc single, 24bhp, 185kg wet, £5,099): cheaper, more authentic retro feel, less powerful. Honda CL500 (471cc, 47bhp, £6,499): more powerful, more refined, more 'modern motorcycle.' £1,400 difference reflects the engineering gap.

£6,499 (new only)
Used market doesn't really exist yet — the CL500 only launched in 2024. Pricing in 2026 is at or near MSRP for clean low-mile. By 2028-2029 expect to see 2024-2025 examples around £4,500-5,500.
Why Honda waited
Engine economy
Honda waited until the CB500-platform engine had been in production for 11 years (2013 launch) before adding the CL500 variant. By 2024, Honda had amortised the engine's development cost across 4 other models. Adding the CL500 was incremental cost — just bodywork and ergonomic tweaks. That's why the CL500 launched at competitive pricing.
