What actually changed.

1996 → 2026 · 30 years of "progress"
First Moto Guzzi ADV in 13 years Stelvio dead 2016 → V85 TT 2019 Moto Guzzi's only previous adventure motorcycle was the Stelvio 1200 (2008-2016). The 1200 was discontinued for Euro 4 compliance reasons. For 3 years Guzzi had no ADV. Then 2019: V85 TT — different engine (853cc vs 1151cc), different chassis architecture, different aesthetic (retro Paris-Dakar instead of modern ADV).
Air-cooled with VVT for Euro 5+ compliance How an old engine survives modern emissions Most air-cooled engines couldn't meet Euro 5 emissions (introduced 2020). Moto Guzzi added Variable Valve Timing to the V85 TT's 853cc transverse V-twin, allowing it to optimise low-rpm cam profiles for cleaner emissions while preserving the high-rpm character. One of very few air-cooled-only engines still on US 2026 sale.
Iconic transverse V-twin layout Cylinders point sideways, not forwards Moto Guzzi's signature engine layout: V-twin mounted transversely (cylinders sticking out horizontally on each side, rather than forwards). This is unique to Moto Guzzi. Heat from the cylinders goes sideways, away from the rider's legs. Shaft drive runs naturally from the back of the gearbox. Whole architecture different from BMW boxer or Ducati V.
21in front spoke wheel Real off-road geometry on a tourer-styled bike V85 TT runs a 21-inch front spoke wheel + 17-inch rear — same proportions as KTM 890 Adventure R, BMW R 1300 GS Trophy, Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition. This is genuine off-road geometry, not the 19-inch road-biased wheel found on bikes like Yamaha Ténéré 700 (which has 21in too actually) and Honda Africa Twin (21in, identical philosophy).
Three-bike family — V85 / Strada / Travel Different specs, same engine + chassis 2026 V85 family: V85 TT ($11,795 — base, dual-purpose tyres), V85 Strada ($12,295 — road-biased, 19in front, sport tyres), V85 Travel ($12,795 — panniers + screen + heated grips standard). Same 853cc V-twin, same chassis, different specs and accessories per intended use case.
$11,795 base — undercuts 890 Adventure Cheaper but less powerful V85 TT $11,795 vs KTM 890 Adventure $12,099 vs Husqvarna Norden 901 $12,099. The Guzzi undercuts the KTM/Husky pair by $304. Power: 80bhp (Guzzi) vs 105bhp (KTM). For riders who prioritise character + brand heritage over raw power, the V85 TT is the value option in this segment.
