Hypermotard 698 Mono. Ducati's first single-cylinder road bike since 1974.

Launched 2024 — Ducati's first single-cylinder road bike in 50 years. The 659cc Superquadro Mono engine is derived from the 1,285cc Panigale Superquadro V-twin (literally one cylinder of it). Hits the highest revs of any production single (10,250rpm), makes 77.5bhp — most powerful single-cylinder supermoto on sale. 151kg wet, 904mm seat, retains desmodromic valves (unlike the V2 platform).

First Ducati single-cylinder road bike since 1974 50-year gap The last Ducati single-cylinder road bike was the 1974 350/450 bevel single. The 698 Mono ends a 50-year drought. Between then and now, Ducati's only single was the 549cc Supermono race-bike (1993-97, 67 examples).
Engine literally derived from Panigale V-twin 1 cylinder of 1299 Superquadro Ducati engineers took the 1,285cc Superquadro V-twin from the 1299 Panigale and lopped off one cylinder. Same 116mm bore, slightly shorter stroke (62.4mm vs 67.5mm), giving 659cc. Twin balancer shafts added to handle the vibration. Most parts are Panigale internals.
Most powerful production single on the planet 77.5bhp at 9,750rpm 77.5bhp peak makes it the most powerful production road-going single ever built. KTM 690 SMC R: 73.8bhp at 8,000rpm. Husqvarna 701: 73.8bhp. The Ducati's 10,250rpm rev limit is unprecedented — single-cylinder competitors typically redline below 9,000rpm.
Desmo valves retained — unlike V2 platform Last desmodromic Ducati? While the new V2 platform ditched desmodromic valves, the 698 Mono retains them. It might be the last new Ducati to use them — the V2 transition is the start of a phase-out. Service intervals: 9,000 miles oil, 18,000 miles valve checks (long for a desmo).
904mm seat is class-leading high Tall riders only 904mm is genuinely tall — even tall riders need a tip-toe at stops unless they take the $450 lower-seat accessory (drops to 889mm). The lower seat + lowered suspension kit drops to 849mm, but you lose ground clearance. Short riders should look at KTM 690 SMC R (890mm) or Husqvarna 701 (885mm).
