What actually changed.

BMW's small-cubed adv evolution · 2017-2026
First small BMW since K75 Brand-new entry tier BMW had no proper sub-650cc since the K75 (1986-1996). G310GS opened a new entry tier — A2-friendly, sub-$5k new, BMW badge for the first time at this price.
vs KTM 390 Adventure Same money, different feel KTM 390 Adventure (44bhp, 158kg, $6,799): more power, lighter. G310GS (34bhp, 175kg, $5,495): cheaper, BMW dealer network. KTM is for the more aggressive A2 rider; G310GS for the BMW-loyal entry buyer.
vs Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Same money, different rider Himalayan 450 (40bhp, 196kg, $5,599): more capable off-road, heavier. G310GS (34bhp, 175kg, $5,495): lighter, less off-road-focused. Himalayan is for offroad-curious; G310GS for road-biased commuting + light trails.
Real cost trajectory Held position $4,750 launch in 2017 → $5,495 in 2026. Roughly inflation-tracked. BMW has kept pricing tight on this model to maintain entry-tier credibility.
Cheapest way in $3,000 (used 2017-19) A clean 2017-2019 G310GS is the cheapest BMW adventure bike on the market. $2.5-3.5k for a tidy one. Watch fuel pump on early bikes, TVS-built quality is solid otherwise.
Rider aids count 1 → 1 G310GS has ABS standard. No traction control, no ride modes — appropriate for the price point and target rider.
