Aprilia Italy

Aprilia Falco SL1000. Aprilia's V-twin sport-tourer.

Aprilia's 1999 Falco SL1000 used the RSV Mille's 998cc 60° V-twin engine detuned for sport-touring duty — 116bhp at peak, half-faired, comfortable upright ergonomics. The friendly road version of the RSV Mille superbike. Killed in 2004 with no direct successor — Aprilia stopped building V-twin sport-tourers entirely. Cult bike on US used market.

What actually changed.

Aprilia's V-twin sport-tourer · 1999-2004
Aprilia's V-twin sport-tourer era ended 2004 Permanent Aprilia killed Falco in 2004 and never built another V-twin sport-tourer. The Caponord 1200 (2013) was an adventure bike, not sport-tourer. The Mana 850 (2007-2014) was a CVT-equipped naked. The 'half-faired Italian V-twin sport-tourer' is uniquely missing in 2026.
vs RSV Mille (sister bike) Detuned for road RSV Mille (1998-2003): 128bhp, 210kg wet, race-rep ergos. Falco SL1000 (1999-2004): 116bhp (detuned), 205kg dry, comfortable ergos. Same 998cc Rotax V-twin engine family. Falco was the friendly road version of the Mille superbike — same engine, completely different chassis purpose.
Why it ended 2004 Sales never broke through Sold in low volumes — riders who wanted V-twin character bought Ducati ST4S, riders who wanted sport-tourer comfort bought Honda Pan European or Triumph Sprint ST. The Falco was the awkward middle option. Aprilia killed it 2004 to focus on naked Tuono and superbike RSV4 development.
Real cost trajectory Held value $8,499 Falco in 2004 ($14,300 today). Used market 2026: $2.5-4k for clean low-mile. Held value relatively well because of RSV Mille engine pedigree and limited UK numbers. Pay attention to electrics (Italian-known), reg/rec, fuel pump.
Rider aids count 1 Falco had FI and slipper clutch. No ABS, no TC, no electronics. Pure early-2000s Italian sport-tourer experience.
Cheapest way in $2.5k A clean Falco from 2000-2003. 116bhp Rotax V-twin (RSV Mille engine), half-faired, comfortable ergos, that classic Italian sport-tourer feel. Pay attention to electrics, reg/rec, fuel pump (early bikes), fork seals. The cheapest path to an RSV-engine bike.
Why riders love it Mille engine + comfort Falco's appeal: RSV Mille V-twin character (128bhp peak in superbike form, 116bhp here detuned) in a comfortable chassis. The thinking person's RSV Mille — same engine, more useable on a daily basis. Cult following for Italian V-twin sport-tourer purists.
