30-Year Arcs / A1-Licence / KTM RC 125 Lineage
KTM Austria

KTM RC 125. The race-styled A1 supersport.

Launched 2014, the KTM RC 125 is the fully-faired supersport version of the Duke 125. Same engine, same tech, plastic race-bike fairing. 14.5bhp, 167kg wet, 820mm seat — A1-licence compliant, with WP Apex suspension and full RC 8 / Moto3 styling DNA. £4,995 OTR for 2026. 1996/2006 = no KTM 125 road bike at all. The RC 125 has had two generations — 1st gen 2014-2021, 2nd gen 2022-on with major redesign.

What actually changed.

1996 → 2026 · 30 years of "progress"
Sport-bike vs Naked — same engine, different bike RC 125 is Duke 125 + fairing Same 125cc single, same frame, same ABS, same TFT, same traction control as the Duke 125. RC 125 adds: full plastic fairing, clip-on bars, rear-set footpegs, sportbike riding triangle. £100 price premium over the Duke 125. The RC is for buyers who want race-replica looks; the Duke is for buyers who want something to actually commute on.
WP Apex forks Class-leading suspension WP Apex 43mm USD forks — same brand and similar tech to KTM's MotoGP and Moto3 race bikes. Rivals: Yamaha R125 (KYB USD), Honda CBR125R (Showa), Suzuki GSX-R125 (Showa). WP is the most adjustable, most supple, most race-tuned of the lot. On track, this is where the RC 125 pulls ahead.
RC 8C / Moto3-inspired styling Race-bike DNA The 2022 redesign brought styling cues from the KTM RC 8C (limited-edition track-only sportbike) and KTM's Moto3 race bikes. Aggressive front fascia, narrow waist, sport-bike fairing geometry. Visually this is the most race-bike-like A1 sportbike on UK sale — closer to a Moto3 than the R125 or CBR125R.
Adjustable clip-ons and pegs Class-first RC 125 has adjustable clip-ons (height + reach) and 4-position footpegs. Lets shorter riders get closer to the dash, taller riders get more legroom. Standard equipment, no extra cost. None of the Japanese rivals offer this. Useful for a learner who's still figuring out sport-bike ergonomics.
Track-day capability Realistic A1 trackbike WP suspension + sportbike ergonomics + 14.5bhp = the RC 125 is genuinely usable on track days. Most A1 sportbikes (CBR125R, R125, GSX-R125) struggle to keep up with even a slightly-experienced rider on a heavier 250cc bike; the RC 125 holds its own. Track schools at the National Training Centre at Silverstone routinely use RC 125s as fleet bikes.
Pillion comfort = nil Pillion seat is decorative RC 125's pillion seat is notoriously hard, narrow and tilted forward. Realistically: nobody's pillion will tolerate more than 5-10 minutes. If you ever ride two-up, pick the Duke 125 (or anything else) instead. The RC's pillion seat is a tax-deductible token gesture.
Why the RC outsells in some markets Race-replica appeal In Italy, France and Spain, the RC 125 outsells the Duke 125 — driven by 16-25-year-old buyers who grew up watching MotoGP and want a Moto3-look-alike. In the UK, the Duke 125 outsells the RC 125 (UK is more practical/utilitarian). Same bike underneath; cultural difference in what new riders aspire to.
