30-Year Arcs / ADV / Aprilia Tuareg Lineage
Aprilia Italy

Aprilia Tuareg 660. with a 30-year gap.

The original Tuareg ran 1985-1992. Then nothing for 30 years. The Tuareg 660 launched 2022 — almost three decades after the last one. So this lineage is mostly a story about Aprilia abandoning a category and then coming back.

What actually changed.

1996 → 2026 · 30 years of "progress"
Production gap 30 years The Tuareg was discontinued in 1992. The Tuareg 660 launched in 2022. Aprilia simply did not make a Tuareg for an entire generation of riders. That is the headline number on this page.
Power gain +34bhp 46bhp 1992 Tuareg → 80bhp 2026 Tuareg 660. Nearly doubled. Going from a single-cylinder Rotax to an Aprilia-developed parallel twin made all the difference.
Engine config Single → Twin The original Tuareg was a single-cylinder Rotax-engined dual-sport. The new Tuareg 660 is a parallel twin sharing its engine with the RS 660 sport bike. Same name, completely different architecture.
Real cost change First US The Tuareg name dates back to 1986 (Aprilia Tuareg Wind/Rally, EU only — never sold US). The 2026 Tuareg 660 is the first time Aprilia has put a Tuareg on US soil, priced at $11,999 to compete with the Ténéré 700 ($11,099) and KTM 890 Adventure R ($14,499).
Rider aids count 0 → 6 1992: nothing. 2026: switchable ABS, traction control, ride modes, ride-by-wire, colour TFT, smartphone connectivity.
Why this page exists Sparse but honest The honest truth: this page is mostly empty. Three of four columns are no-Tuareg-existed. But that is the story — Aprilia gave up on the middleweight ADV class for 30 years, and they are now selling a brilliant bike that looks like it was waiting all that time.
Cheapest way in $3k used XR An original Aprilia Tuareg 600 from the late 80s/early 90s — if you can find one. They were built in small numbers and most are still in Italy. Becoming sought-after as the new Tuareg pulls attention back to the badge.
