What actually changed.

Harley bagger evolution · 1996-2026
Evolution → Milwaukee-Eight 117 +50bhp · +30 years 1996 FLHTC was 1340cc Evolution, 55bhp, carbs, no electronics. 2026 Street Glide is 1923cc M8 117, 105bhp, full IMU/cornering ABS/TFT/cruise/optional ACC. Different motorcycles entirely while keeping the same bagger philosophy.
vs Indian Challenger Different engine, similar money Indian Challenger ($25,499/$24k, 122bhp PowerPlus liquid-cooled V-twin, 360kg): liquid-cooled rival with more power and rear cylinder cooling. Street Glide ($26,499/$24,999, 105bhp air-cooled M8): traditional air-cooled HD character, dealer network advantage. Different riders.
Real cost trajectory Down 22% in real terms 1996 FLHTC was $32,000 in today's USD money. 2026 Street Glide is $24,999 — 22% cheaper while being a vastly more capable bike. HD has been competitively pricing this segment to fight Indian.
Rider aids count (1996 → 2026) 0 → 7+ 1996 FLHTC had nothing. 2026 Street Glide has cornering ABS, IMU, traction control, 4 ride modes, Skyline OS infotainment, optional adaptive cruise, heated grips std.
Cheapest way in $8,000 (2010-2014) A clean 2010-2014 Street Glide (TC96 or TC103) is the cheapest entry. $7-12k for a sensible one. Watch cam tensioner on TC88, cam plate on TC103, reg/rec on all.
vs Road Glide (sister model) Same engine, different fairing Road Glide has frame-mounted shark-nose fairing (2× headlight, more wind protection). Street Glide has handlebar-mounted batwing (lighter steering feel). Same M8 117 engine, same bags, same chassis. Pick by fairing preference.
