What actually changed.

1996 → 2026 · 30 years of "progress"
CFMOTO-developed engine — NOT KTM-derived Different architecture from 800MT The 800MT uses the licensed KTM 790-platform engine. The 700MT uses a new CFMOTO-developed 693cc parallel twin — different bore/stroke ratio, different head architecture, different cooling layout. Less proven than the KTM-derived motor but cheaper to manufacture, allowing the 700MT's lower price point.
Touring-biased vs 800MT off-road bias Same brand, different briefs The 800MT has 21in front wheel option, longer suspension travel, more aggressive seat foam, more off-road riding modes. The 700MT keeps 19in/17in cast wheels, road-tuned suspension, comfort-focused seat, more touring riding modes. Two different bikes for two different riders within the same model family.
£7,499 vs £8,999 Honda NC750X Class price disruption CFMOTO 700MT: £7,499, 74bhp, IMU electronics, heated grips standard. Honda NC750X: £8,999, 58bhp, basic electronics, heated grips optional. The CFMOTO offers more power, more electronics, lower price — but lacks Honda's reliability reputation and dealer density.
Electronic suspension is new for 2026 First Chinese bike with this feature at this price The 2026 700MT (Touring spec) introduces electronic rear preload adjustment — adjustable on the fly. This is class-disruptive: BMW R 1300 GS has it (£15k+ ADV), Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro has it (£17k+). The 700MT brings it to a £8,499 motorcycle. CFMOTO is starting to push tech downward in the segment.
Apple CarPlay on the dashboard Bigger screen than most rivals 6.5in TFT with full Apple CarPlay support — same multimedia capability as luxury cars. Yamaha Tracer 9 GT has 7in TFT but no CarPlay. KTM 890 Adventure has 5in TFT, no CarPlay. The CFMOTO's media tech outpaces the bike's mechanical tech in some respects.
Mid-tier slot in CFMOTO ADV lineup 450 → 700 → 800 = three displacement options CFMOTO offers three distinct ADV displacements in 2026 UK: 450MT (entry, A2), 700MT (mid, road-touring biased), 800MT (flagship, off-road biased). All three at different price points (£5,699 / £7,499 / £8,999). Buyer chooses based on budget, license tier, and intended use.
