What actually changed.

1996 → 2026 · 30 years of "progress"
Engine architecture Inline four throughout Every Suzuki sport-tourer on this page is an inline four. The current GSX-S1000 GT uses the GSX-R1000 K5-derived motor (which has been making people happy for 20 years). Suzuki has stayed loyal to the four-cylinder layout for sport-touring for 30 years.
Power gain +27bhp 125bhp GSX1100F → 152bhp GSX-S1000 GT. 22% more horsepower across 30 years from a similar architecture, smaller capacity (1127 → 999cc). Modern engine technology and electronics doing the work.
Real cost change −£2.4k GSX1100F was £7,500 in 1996 (£15,000 today). GSX-S1000 GT is £12,799 — about 16% cheaper in real terms with full electronics, IMU, TFT, quickshifter. Suzuki priced it as the value sport-tourer.
Why the GT exists Sport-tourer kit pack The GSX-S1000 GT is essentially the GSX-S1000 hyper-naked with: a half-fairing, more relaxed ergonomics, bigger fuel tank, better wind protection, panniers available. Suzuki took their existing platform and added the touring kit pack — keeping the price low and the development cost minimal.
Where it sits in Suzuki range Sport-tourer flagship The GSX-S1000 GT is Suzuki sport-touring flagship in 2026. Above it: nothing in sport-touring (Hayabusa is hyper-sport, not sport-tourer). Below it: V-Strom 800/1050 (adventure-tourers). Suzuki sport-touring market is essentially defined by this one bike.
Rider aids count 0 → 9 1996: nothing. 2026: cornering ABS, traction control (5 stages), ride modes, quickshifter, smartphone, slope-dependent control, slip control, low RPM assist, cruise control. Strong suite at the price.
Cheapest way in £2k A clean Bandit 1250S from 2007-2010. Probably the cheapest Suzuki sport-tourer you can buy in 2026. Plentiful, reliable, parts cheap, half-fairing for weather protection. Hard to beat at the price.
